Lake Naivasha and Hells Gate National Park

Fishermans Camp, Lake Naivasha, Kenya
My next stop was at Lake Naivasha. There are many expensive hotels and lodges, but thank god, there is also the Fisherman camp. Here one can either hire expensive Bandas (huts), or rent a tent for 10 US. The camp is very well known and on weekends many Expats from Nairobi come here.  The camp lies directly at the lake. In the lake, there are many hippos living. In the evenings, they come close to the shore. However, the tents and people are safe. There is an electric fence, which keeps them off the compound.

Cycling in Hells Gate National Park, Kenya

Five kilometers from the camp there is the entrance to the Hells Gate National Park. This is the only national park, which one may explore on foot or with by bicycle. In this park, there are no big cats, so, it is possible to explore it without a car. But there are many zebras, a few giraffes, warthogs, antelopes and monkeys.

It is somewhat different to watch these animals from a bike instead of a car. Especially with the warthogs it was sometimes difficult to say, who is watching whom - and why....

In the park there is also a big gorge. One may explore that only with a guide, and this has his reason. In there, it reminded me more of cannoning than trekking. It was very slippery, a lot of climbing of rocks or around them about and wading through water....
