Pastor Rhona in action

Pastor Rhona, Kampala, Uganda
Rhona has finished her education for becoming a Pastor. Last year the soup kitchen moved to a new location and is now in the middle of the slum. So, it is easier to reach for mothers with very small children than the former location. Every Sunday a mass takes place here and afterwards food is distributed. To hear Rhona preaching was something very special! All that came with lots of music, drums and dance. Food is distributed every Sunday, Wednesday and Friday.

Living conditions in the slum are unbearable. Often, the huts are only a few square metres big, but accomodate 5, 6 oder more people. Cooking

is done on open fire outside in front of the huts. Toitelts and "showers" are shared. Amoung how many people - I could not find out. Watertaps are only few and they belong someone, who asks money for getting water out of them. One jellycan with 20 litres is 200 Uganda Schilling, which is about 25 US Cent. Most of the residents here make something like 75 US a month, some of them less. One hut is the equivalent of 45 US per month....
