Viepoint Blyde River Canyo, South Africa |
From Nelspruit I drove to Graskop.
Valley View Backpackers was a very nice place and the owner Melinda was a mine of information. I simply loved the landscape around Blyde River Canyon. Many
viewpoints, a lot of waterfalls and big rocks. All that came with a lot
of useful signposts, parking, kiosks, toilets and a lot of sign, what
is allowed and what is not. Not allowed e.g. is to jump into the
waterfall....

Not the best of all idea was the one with camping in Graskop. It is
really cold there! In the morning, there was ice on the tent, and I had
to scrape off ice from the car... A sore throat, a cold and upcoming
cough was not far anymore.... To avoid becoming completely ill, I spent
the next nights inside, but it was actually already too late. There was
no way to do camping in Kruger National Park. The lodges in the park are
far too expensive. So, Melinda of Valley View Backpackers in Graskop
supplied me with information about hostels close to the park. Basically,
I drove in the mornings into the park, spent the whole day there and
went out in the evening to sleep close by.
